It all started with a bamboo plant from Ikea…
No, really. It did.
Well, it technically did…But before i start let me introduce myself. My name is Thalia, but you can call me T. I am Cuban-American, raised in the hell-fire-hot state of Florida. 4 years ago, I made the move to Westchester County, NY (zone 7A). Im 33 years old, I am a virgo & a professional photographer by trade.
Now that we got that out of the way…
To make what is a deeply personal and absurdly long story short, my therapist suggested that getting into house plants would be a good way to help deal and soothe my depression/anxiety. I wasnt super keen on the idea until I picked up a nearly dead bamboo plant from Ikea one day in 2018. Many murdered houseplants, much reading, many failures and curiosities later…I ended up obsessed with gardening as a whole. Havent looked back since.
I hope to share my healing journey with you all, along with some magic, humor and maybe some mistakes too. Whatever you gain from this, or dont…its my pleasure to be here with you regardless.
And in case youre wondering…the Ikea bamboo is still kicking. I may have killed a lot of greenery in my years learning how to grow and care for my green allies, but for some reason, that little buddy refuses to die. Theres a lesson in there somewhere, im sure.

Give her simple, healthy food. Let her run wild in the garden. Don’t look after her too much. She needs liberty and fresh air and romping about.
